Long time, no blog...

These blogs, to some degree, reveal how damn busy we are! No blogs = no spare time.

In little more than 8 months, we've moved on from twelve to around twenty staff. Most of the intake have been experienced and we have solid induction processes to bring them quickly up to speed. We've had some misfires, (miss-hires?), but mostly we've shown that the agency is starting to attract talent all on its own. People who get our story and want to contribute. Which is nice.

We were wrongfooted by Drupalcon - a developer conference for the technology we use. We sponsored it, which we thought was pretty cool. We sent all our developers down there, which they appreciated. But it turns out, we missed the point. We forgot the stand. And at the last minute, I got the guys to put a sticker on the wall behind it, trying to make a joke of it all. Turns out that they would really have liked a nice stand.

So what else has happened in these short months? Tons, it turns out. On the tech front, barely a day passes without some groundbreaking announcement. I guess the best of the recent was the new HP CEO announcing that they were going to get out of making PCs. Followed shortly by the HP board announcing they were going to say goodbye to the CEO.  Nice work Mr Apotheker. Nice work.

Of all the tech announcements recently, I liked the Kindle Fire. Bezos is one of the tech world's Martians. But I kinda like him. And he's decided to take Apple on in the tablet wars at an altogether more fundamental level than the rest. Where Samsung/Google struggled to show their hand (Apple used the courts to prevent Samsung from fielding a bunch of iPad killer tablets), Bezos walks calmly on stage and drops a show stopper.

The Kindle Fire is half the price, for a lot of people, no loss of service because Amazon has a ton of content (even fridges n' stuff) - but it's affordable. I'll bet there's a ton of people out there with more brand loyalty to Amazon than Apple. And with all the best tech demonstrations, there is a subtle flourish. In this case it was that the Fire runs Android (who doesn't these days?). Bezos was playing the game 'Fruit Ninja'. Slicing Apples? Geddit?

Anyway. I have to leave you - 3 new employees in the next 2 weeks, plus one that would like to leave (has he read his contract?!?). And a major pitch, at the top end of our capabilities - which is fun, because they're getting more frequent, and more easy. Goodnight.
